Gory Marble Sculpture, Early 20th Century
Sculpture in white Carrara marble, signed Gory, depicting a young child seated on a cushion. The nude figure is delicately treated in an idealized vision of childhood. The hands held in front of the face lend the whole a modest yet touching expression.
The finely carved cushion is adorned with a dove also made from the same marble, adding a poetic and symbolic dimension to the composition.
An elegant, refined work, characteristic of Affortunato Gory's work.

"Affortunato Gory"
Affortunato Gory was an Italian sculptor active between 1895 and 1925, the year of his death in Paris. A native of Florence, he trained academically in sculpture, notably under Auguste Rivalta at the Academy.
Like many Italian artists of his time, he moved to Paris at the beginning of the 20th century to develop his artistic career. He then adopted the name Affortunato Gory and began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1902, where he presented a Buste de femme in bronze and marble. He was a regular participant until 1923.
Gory owes his renown to his elegant female figures, imbued with grace and refinement, as well as his mastery of chryselephantine sculpture, characterized by the combination of materials such as bronze, marble, alabaster and ivory.
