Antique Alabaster Sculptures, Young Girl Sculpture, 19th Century. (stal107)

Artist: Gino Ar

The category Antique Marble and Alabaster Sculptures presents a decorative alabaster sculpture depicting an elegant female bust,

mounted on a refined base in dark marble and gilded metal, with an applied plaque on the front bearing the inscription “POÈME”.

The work depicts the face of a young woman, delicately and softly modelled, characterized by idealized features, a sweet and composed

expression, and a refined hairstyle with wavy hair gathered at the top of the head.

The craftsmanship of alabaster, a material highly appreciated in decorative sculpture for its particular luminosity and its ability to diffuse

light delicately, gives the bust a warm, velvety and refined appearance.

The female figure is represented as a half bust, with a base consisting of a gilded metal element with raised decoration, probably in

bronze or brass, set above a solid base in veined marble with reddish-brown tones.

The period of this antique sculpture dates to the late 19th century, the 19th century or the early years of the 20th century.

The antique female alabaster statue bears a “Gino AR” signature, referring to an Italian sculptor active in Germany, about whom little information is known.

The antique alabaster sculpture can be associated with the decorative arts manufactory founded in Osterode am Harz in 1887 by

Gottfried Schumacher (1855-1920), which remained active until 1929.

Around 1900, Schumacher became increasingly interested in production in marble and alabaster and brought Italian sculptors to Osterode.

The sculpture is in excellent state of preservation.
