Dated 1906, this drawing by Georges Clairin depicts a female figure with long, flower-adorned hair and an imposing ram’s head. The juxtaposition of feminine beauty and animal power, along with the absence of any explicit narrative, lends this composition an air of mystery characteristic of Symbolist imagery.
A large pastel nearly two meters high, also dated 1906, revisits this same motif in an architecturally structured composition, suggesting a possible decorative project of which no known realization exists today. Finally, the dedication reveals that the artist gave this sheet to one of his friends.
