A sweeping view of the sea toward Capri, with figures on the shore and a solitary boat sailing across the calm waters toward the mainland. A nearly identical panorama by Hering is held in the Royal Trust collection. Framed and titled on the reverse. The work was likely painted during the Grand Tour, Hering’s journey through Italy and Greece.
