18th-century Hand-painted Lace Canivet Depicting A Saint
This pocket knife dates from the 18th century and depicts Saint Ottilia. The work was done by hand with a certain naivety.
Odile of Hohenbourg (Saint Odile), born around 660, possibly in Obernai (Bas-Rhin), who died in 720 in Hohenbourg, was a noblewoman of the Merovingian era, daughter of Duke Etichon-Adalric of Alsace, and founder and abbess of the monastery of Hohenbourg, located on what is now Mount Sainte-Odile. She was canonized in the 11th century and is considered the patron saint of Alsace.
