Gold-plated metal cross with ornate, enlargedspokes between the branches and a suspension ring at the top.top. Instituted on August 26, 1856 to commemorate the end of theend of the Crimean War, it is referred to in official documents as the in official documents as the "Clergy Cross for the Eastern War". It was intended torecognize the essential role played by the Orthodox Church, which provided religious and moral support to front-line troops and their familiesand their families, as well as to the many civilians taking part in the war effort. The Crimean War was fought by an alliance of Great Britain, France, Sardinia and Italy, France, Sardinia and the Ottoman Empire against the Russian Empire,with the aim of curbing its expansion. On one side, a central medallion bearinga life-size image of the face from the Medal for the (Crimean) WarCrimea) of 1853-1856 with the interlaced crowned numerals of theemperors Nicholas I and Alexander II, surmounted by the all-seeing beaming eyeall-seeing eye and dated 1853-1854-1855-1856.
On the reverse ,a central medallion bearing a life-sizelife-size image of the reverse of the (Crimean) War Medalof 1853-1856 bearing the inscription "НА ТЯ ГОСРОДИ УПОВАХОМЪ, ДА НЕПОСТЬІДИМСЯ ВО ВЕКИ' (We have placed our hopes in You, Lord,let us never be ashamed).
It is in very good condition, probably missing a suspension ring
