Antique Snuff Box Made Of Qing Yongzheng-era Chinese Porcelain, Asia, Chinese, Ref. 1173

A Chinese porcelain snuffbox from the early 19th century bearing a spurious Yongzheng mark, decorated with court figures visiting an artist, who is shown holding a scroll painted with flowers.

The bottle flares toward the base, and the mark is located beneath the foot.

The six characters in cobalt blue, marked “Da Qing Yongzheng Nian Zhi,” mean “made during the Yongzheng era of the Great Qing Dynasty.”

During his short twelve-year reign, Emperor Yongzheng (1678–1735) commissioned the production of exquisitely crafted porcelain pieces decorated with finely executed scenes.

Period: This piece dates from the late 18th or early 19th century.

Condition: As found; one chip on the neck of the bottle (see photos).
