C. André—winter Scene With Skaters—oil On Wood, Dated 1887

Oil on solid wood panel, signed C. André and dated 1887, depicting a lively winter scene in a snow-covered landscape.
The composition centers on a frozen road being used as a skating rink.
In the center, two skaters glide across the frozen surface, while other figures enliven the background on a lake that serves as a playground and hub of activity.
On the right, tall, gnarled trees stripped of their leaves and covered in snow strongly define the perspective.
Their dark trunks and gnarled branches contrast with the whites and grays of the sky, ice, and snow.
On the left, a horse-drawn carriage passes by the buildings, one of which resembles a factory or small plant, indicated in particular by a tall red chimney.
In the background, the view opens up to a snow-covered village dominated by the church steeple.
The work is signed “C. André” in the lower left corner and dated “87.”
I’m simply noting the signature, as I do not wish to attribute it to a well-known painter.
The panel is in very good overall condition
