Venetian Directoire-style Writing Desk In Walnut – Vicenza Area, Early 19th Century
An elegant Directoire-style writing desk of Venetian craftsmanship, likely from the Vicenza area and dating to the early 19th century (circa 1800–1815).Crafted from walnut with a fine veneer that highlights the wood’s splendid natural grain, it is distinguished by its understated and balanced lines, typical of the Directoire style, a transitional period between the Louis XVI and Empire styles. The front is adorned with a large drawer, complete with its original bronze locks and handles. The interior of the drawer is made of fir with the original period bottom. The writing desk has been conservatively restored, preserving the patina and the wood’s original characteristics. It is in excellent condition and ready to be placed in any setting. Thanks to its compact size and elegant proportions, it fits easily into both classical and contemporary settings, making it ideal as a writing desk, study table, or refined console table.A typical example of Vicenza-style furniture from that period, it exemplifies the quality of Venetian cabinetmaking from the early 19th century, prized for the understated elegance of its forms and the precision of its craftsmanship.Dimensions: Width: 120 cm; Depth: 57 cm; Height: 82 cm; Clear height under the top: 58 cm
