A dish created to commemorate the 1952 award winner. A one-of-a-kind piece with Art Deco decoration.
Raymond Henri-Chevallier was born in Auxerre, France, on October 14, 1900.
He trained at the École nationale des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and, upon completing his studies, was hired as head of the decoration department at the Longwy pottery factory. It was on the job that he developed and perfected his techniques in the ceramic arts.At the age of 25, he received the bronze medal at the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris. After Longwy, he served as director of Céramique de Bruxelles for two years before joining the Manufacture Louviéroise. From 1937 to 1954, he headed the Artistic Creation Studio at Boch Frères Keramis, succeeding Charles Catteau. His works are distinguished by their rich color palette, often accented with gold.
Keramis showcases two mural compositions by Raymond Henri-Chevallier titled “La Terre” and “Le Feu.” These allegorical works were originally located in the entrance hall of the pottery factory’s offices, built in 1948. "La Terre" and "Le Feu" are created using tiles painted in shades of reddish-brown and are overlaid with gold.
