Carved Walnut Wall-mounted Console Table, Renaissance Style – Late 19th Century
An elegant carved walnut console table, crafted in the late 19th century in the pure Renaissance style, featuring a musical cherub of great artistic finesse.
The cherub, kneeling beneath the tabletop, strikes a contemplative and graceful pose, holding a lute close to his chest. His youthful face, framed by abundant curls, expresses an almost melancholic gentleness, typical of angelic depictions in the Italian Renaissance.
The delicately outstretched wings, carved as broad, overlapping feathers, add an ethereal dimension to the composition. The wood, with its deep, warm brown patina, reveals exquisite carving: the folds of the drapery, the anatomical modeling, and the texture of the feathers—all attest to masterful craftsmanship.
The console itself features an architectural form, evoking the wall sconces of Renaissance palaces: a molded shelf, balanced proportions, and a strong sculptural presence. The piece exudes a sense of decorative nobility, ideal for enhancing a classic or eclectic interior.
