The hero of the *Odyssey*, protected by Athena, is depicted after his return to Ithaca. Having triumphed over his trials, he sits with one hand resting on his shield, his sword leaning against it. The hero’s gaze is lost in the distance, introspective and resilient.
Condition: the clock has been cleaned and serviced by a professional clockmaker; the gilding is in good condition
An identical clock is housed at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, bequeathed by George Derwent Radclyffe.
