1886. Loredan Larchey. Our Old Proverbs
Artist: Loredan Larchey
Loredan Larchey (1831–1902) was one of the great scholars of the late 19th century, whose reputation has, of course, faded somewhat, yet his publications were numerous and remarkable.
A librarian at the Mazarine Library, and later curator of the Arsenal Library, he contributed to numerous journals.
A lover of all forms of language, he compiled a landmark dictionary of slang.
A curious, enlightened man with a good sense of humor— this is the man who offers us an overview of the ancient proverbs of France.
Published in 1886, this is a rare copy printed on Japanese paper, filled with small illustrations.
Bound in a lovely mauve half-leather binding, it is in very fine original condition.
