Pierre-Laurent Baeschlin was a student of Pierre Eugène Montézin. He initially worked in the field of applied arts (silk fabrics, wallpaper), including for Louis-Isidore Leroy, as evidenced by the collections of the Bibliothèque Forney, while simultaneously devoting himself to painting under the guidance of Montézin and Henri-Camille Danger.
