Louis XIV-style Frame In Carved And Gilded Oak, Made In Paris, Early 18th Century.
The molding is adorned with a design of palmettes, scrolls, and stylized foliage set against a checkered background characteristic of works from this period. The corners are highlighted by large palmettes, while the crossbars and uprights feature a symmetrical design inspired by the ornamental repertoire of Jean Bérain, which was very much in vogue in Paris at the end of Louis XIV’s reign.
The piece stands out for the quality of its carving, the delicacy of its decoration, and its beautiful proportions. The original gilding, preserved with its slight signs of wear, highlights the reliefs and adds to the charm of this frame.
The reverse features a traditional oak construction, assembled with dovetail joints, reflecting the traditional methods used in the early 18th century and indicating that this frame has not been recut.
In good condition. Some wear and minor losses in the gilding.
