According to tradition, Romulus, as leader of a still-young and almost exclusively male city, ordered the abduction of the Sabine women during a festival in order to ensure Rome’s future and its lineage. The scene thus marks a founding moment in Roman history, blending violence, political destiny, and the birth of a nation.
