Painted Wooden Box Decorated With Music Trophies, Landscapes, And Romantic Scenes
Painted Louis XVI-style hinged chest, late 18th century–early 19th century
Charming painted wooden box or small storage box, opening via a flap on the front. The entire piece is decorated on all sides with rural and pastoral scenes inspired by the Louis XVI style: young shepherdesses in a bucolic landscape, rustic architecture, lively landscapes, and a medallion featuring musical instruments surrounded by floral garlands on the top.
The interior, divided into compartments, suggests a former domestic use (storage box, work kit, or small letter box). The interiorflap is also adorned with a naive scene depicting a young boy accompanied by his dog.
Beautiful polychrome in shades of green and pastels, enhanced by painted borders. High-quality decorative work reminiscent of French productions from the late 18th or early 19th century, in the spirit of the pastoral motifs of the Louis XVI era.
