Circular Plate With A Curved Rim, In Silver From The Kingdom Of Sardinia, Before 1872
Circular Silver Plate with a Curvilinear Rim from the Kingdom of Sardinia, pre-1872 featuring an elaborate rim divided into twelve broad, bulging lobes that create a wavy profile. Each compartment features a finely chiseled quadrangular geometric design at its center, within which a four-petaled floral motif (four-leaf clover) is depicted. The alternation between the smooth, polished surfaces of the rim and the matte texture of the engraved panels creates a pleasing play of light. The center of the plate is smooth, slightly concave, and has a mirror-like surface that reflects the surrounding environment. At the top of the rim, near the inner edge, three hallmarks are visible, among which we recognize the one corresponding to the second silver standard in the Kingdom of Sardinia from 1824 to 1872 (the cross of Saints Maurice and Lazarus surmounted by the royal crown within an oval outline). The silversmith’s initials, M.G., are within an oval outline featuring a shrub, along with a third unidentified hallmark. The object shows normal signs of age that attest to its authenticity, namely slight oxidation spots (such as the small green spot visible in the center), minor scratches, and a natural patina that highlights the details of the chiseling.
