19th-century Long Pipe – “eagle’s Talons And Egg” Meerschaum Bowl With Original Case

A beautiful, long pipe from 19th century, presented in its original black leather case, linedwith blue silk, marked S.A., a Parisian firm founded in 1836.
The pipe bowl, which is light given the length of stem, is carved in shape of an eagle’s claw holding an egg.
Its smoky patina gives it a particularly pleasing appearance.
It is fitted with a pipe stem made of seagull bone (a naturally hollow material), trimmed with silverat both ends (traces of hallmarks are present). This design served to cool smoke, making it less hot and smoother to inhale.
Mouth piece, made from bone, is in good condition and clean.
This elegant pipe was likely intended for a scholar or a student.
It dates from the Second Empire period.
