Charming graduated set of five Burmese bronze elephant weights (opium weights), all cast in the round and standing on stepped bases decorated with a rosette or star motif. This incised rosette/star motif on the bases is characteristic of older Burmese weights from the Ava and Konbaung periods.
Each weight is modelled as an elephant walking, with long trunk, large ears and incised details to the head and forehead. The elephants stand on multi-stepped bases, one side decorated with a stylised flower or starburst. Beautiful, untouched dark patina with warm high points from handling.
The set is graded in size from largest to smallest, with two of the elephants being the same size, which is typical of functional trade sets assembled for use on the scales.
