Artist: Diette & Hour
RARE Diette & Hour alarm clock in the shape of a bollard (serviced and in working order) CLL25PEN001
ALARM CLOCK IN THE SHAPE OF A BOLLARD, MADE OF BLACK MARBLE AND CHERRY WOOD – MECHANICAL MOVEMENT MARKED D.H. – SERVICED AND IN WORKING ORDER
Charming pillar-shaped alarm clock made of polished black marble accented with plaques of red Griotte marble, a testament to French clockmaking from the late 19th or early 20th century.
Itsunderstated, architectural aesthetic evokes the small mantelpiece and desk clocks of that period. The enameled dial with Roman numerals is surrounded by a gilded brass bezel.
It features a mechanical movement marked “D.H.” The initials D.H. are well known in French watchmaking for having been used by the firm Diette & Hour, a manufacturer renowned in particular for its industrial clocks and automata from the late 19th century.
Aninteresting feature is that this clock is equipped with a small balance wheel integrated directly into the movement, also known as an escape platform. This autonomous system, commonly used in alarm clocks, travel clocks, and small table clocks, replaces the traditional pendulum and allows for compact and reliable operation.
The movement has been serviced and is functioning properly. The alarm function is operational. The clock comes with its fixed keys for adjustment and winding.
Dimensions:
Height: approximately 18 cm
Width: approximately 14 cm
Depth: approximately 7 cm
Condition:
Goodoverall condition. A few slight signs of wear and small age-related chips on the marble with no major aesthetic impact. The movement has been serviced and is in working order.
An elegant little desk or mantel clock, combining the elegance of marble with the technical sophistication of an integrated mechanical balance wheel movement, representative of French watchmaking expertise from the Belle Époque.
