three miniatures on vellum, painted in watercolor, depicting three members of the same family circa 1805–1820:

  • a young man in a black coat and a high Empire-style collar,
  • an elderly woman in a white bonnet and a red shawl,
  • a young woman in a white Empire-style dress.

The frames are Restoration / Charles X-era frames, made of blackened wood with gilded trim.

The inscriptions on the back

Notably include:

  • Jeanne Cugnier
  • Madame Clerget
  • “ mother of Jacques Toussaint Clerget”
  • “this portrait was painted in 1811”

and on the others:

  • “Jacques Toussaint Clerget”
  • “ A. Gay”

These old annotations provide genuine family provenance, which is a significant advantage.

The costumes, technique, frames, and backing papers are consistent with a work created around 1810–1815.

The inscription “painted in 1811”

Condition
  • a cohesive set, preserved in its entirety;
  • period frames;
  • identification of the figures;
  • colors still fresh.

  • some wear and soiling;
