Reliquary Of The Holy Cross – 19th Century
An interesting wooden cross covered with mother-of-pearl, finely engraved with the instruments of thePassion and adorned with a relic of the True Cross.
It is made of woodfrom Gethsemane, the place where Jesus prayed before his arrest.
At the base of the crossis the inscription “S. DE BETH LEEM,” referring to a second relic,likely a fragment of stone or wood from Bethlehem.
On the back are depicted the 14 Stations of the Cross.
The relic comes with its authenticbishop’s certificate dated 1848.
Dimensions: 30 cm by 18 cm.
In good condition, although two pieces of mother-of-pearl are missing.
