Wooden Sarcophagus Mask On A Stand, Late Period (664–332 B.c.).

A magnificent wooden sarcophagus mask from the Late Period of Egypt (664–332 B.C.), featuring finely carved facial features—particularly the eyes and mouth—and a patinated nose. It features a superb depiction of a noble headdress. In Egyptian belief, it was essential to capture the identity and spirit of the deceased, and this piece is a striking example of that. Assembly holes are visible on both sides of the mask, where it was attached to the sarcophagus. Beautifully proportioned, it measures 32 cm in height on its custom-made contemporary acrylic base.
Provenance: Southern California collection, acquired in the 1960s from a major Swiss collection.
