Saint Thomas Of Villamena Giving Alms, Late 17th–early 18th Century. Contemporary Frame.
An interesting oil painting on canvas, unpainted and untouched, in a period frame, which also retains its original gilding in excellent condition, depicting Saint Thomas of Villamena, an Augustinian saint and patron of Valencia, Spain, who is also venerated in Italy, in the act of giving alms to a pair of orphans.
The painting, in fact, may have been executed by a talented painter from Lazio with a devotional background, active at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Both the painting and the frame have been preserved over the centuries in the condition you see here, meaning they have never been cleaned or restored. The frame retains its original gilding, which remains vibrant and lustrous.
