Henry Ottmann particularly excelled in the pastel technique, as can be seen here.
This is due to the fact that this delicate medium clearly lends itself very well to the artist’s characteristic ethereal style and manner.
It is also worth noting the great modernity of this landscape and its gradations, which border on abstraction.

Henry Ottmann was born on April 10, 1877, in Ancenis.
He made his debut at the Salon de la Libre Esthétique in Brussels in 1904 and participated in the Salon des Indépendants in Paris beginning in 1905, as well as in the Salon d’Automne, the Salon de la Société nationale des Beaux-Arts, and the Salon des Tuileries.
In 1911 and 1912, Ottmann exhibited with the Artistes de la Société Moderne at the Paul Durand-Ruel Gallery alongside Armand Guillaumin, Henri Lebasque, and others. In 1912, he exhibited at the Eugène Druet Gallery.
In 1920, Ottmann exhibited at the Marcel Bernheim Gallery alongside Manguin, Tirman, Alexandre-Paul Canu, and others.
In 1922, he exhibited at the Exposition du Cercle Artistique de Bruxelles alongside Paul-Albert Besnard, Pierre Bonnard, Raoul Dufy, Othon Friesz, Charles Guérin, André Lhote, Henri Matisse, Paul Signac, Maurice de Vlaminck, and others.
In 1926, Ottmann exhibited at the L. Dru Gallery (Paris) and at the Parisian gallery La Palette Française, then in March 1927 at the Armand Drouand Gallery.
He died in Vernon on June 1, 1927, following a car accident.
The Nantes Museum of Fine Arts owns a dozen of the artist’s paintings, including *L’Étal Marseillais*, *L’Erdre au pont d’Orléans*, and *Portrait of the Artist*.
The painting La Gare du Luxembourg à Bruxelles is currently on display at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
