Luminor Retouching Table And Vintage Autochrome Photography

Artist: Luminor

LUMINOR retouching desk, 1938.

Beautiful autochrome photograph of a bouquet of chrysanthemums, 9 x 12 cm, circa 1920.

Wooden desk covered with brown crocodile-patterned cardboard.

The lower frame features a mirror. Its function is to reflect light from outside onto the frosted glass on which the negative to be retouched is placed.

The retouching desk allowed for the retouching of negatives or glass plates using brushes, masking, or dyes, utilizing a light source, a mirror reflecting natural or artificial light, to illuminate the work surface, and a frosted glass pane.

The opaque upper frame serves to protect the user from stray light.
