Kosmos Inactinic Lamp For Photo Labs
Light for a photo lab.
Height: 13.5 cm
Ruby crystal chimney (red cylindrical glass) mounted on a brass frame.
The reservoir and its Kosmos burner are housed in the brass base. The Kosmos system was invented in Germany in 1865.
In the mid-19th century, brass kerosene lamps became widespread and specialized into various types, such as candle lamps, wall lamps, flashlights, and lamps for photographic development—featuring red-tinted glass that first appeared as early as 1885.
These light-proof red glass sleeves are quite rare; they allow photos to be developed by providing a small amount of light without affecting the chemicals.
