Early 19th-century Empire-style clock in mercury-gilded bronzedepicting two children in a library setting. One, seated on astool, is engrossed in reading, while the other is busy writing.The movement is integrated into a column adorned with a bas-relief depictinglibrary shelves. The ensemble is surmounted by two crowns restingon a closed book, a symbol of knowledge and learning.The clock rests on an oval base richly decorated with a frieze ofgarlands and supported by four spindle legs.White enamel dial.
