Dutch Stoof Clock, Circa 1720
A stoof clock from the eastern Netherlands. The movement and alarm mechanism are constructed between upright strips. The shape of the case resembles a stove, which is where the clock gets its name. The oak case is painted. The pendulum hangs at the back of the movement, positioned between the wall and the rear panel of the clock. It measures 54 cm in height and 19 cm in width. The hanging bracket has been replaced more recently.
