Gilded Bronze Casket In The Neo-gothic Style, 19th Century
An elegant, domed box in gilded bronze, richly embossed and chiseled, a French piece from the second half of the 19th century, inspired by the Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance styles then in vogue during the Second Empire.
The entire piece is adorned with a relief decoration of finely rendered fleurs-de-lis, foliage, scrolls, and small flowers, extending across all sides. The arched lid features its original movable handle and opens to reveal an interior lined with red velvet, creating a particularly refined contrast with the gilded metal.
The front features a lock framed by openwork decoration, while the sides feature a rich symmetrical design of stylized plant motifs. The meticulous execution of the decoration and the quality of the embossing attest to a beautifully crafted decorative piece, likely intended to serve as a jewelry box, glove box, or presentation case.
Highly decorative, this model perfectly illustrates the 19th-century historicist taste for reimagined medieval forms.
Gilding is stained and tarnished in places; we do not have the key
19th-century period.
