Louis XVI Chest Of Drawers In Cherrywood. Genius By Dupré
Louis XVI cherrywood chest of drawers
Topped with a cherrywood panel framed by three molded rails. The front opens to reveal four drawers in three rows. The intermediate upright separating the top two drawers conceals a cache.
The drawers are embellished with six molded cartouches and three central circles with strings of pearls framing the lock escutcheons.
The stamped brass of the handles and one escutcheon are original and inscribed with "la Nation la Loi et le Roi" with the Genius of France in the center before an altar engraving the Constitution with the scepter of Reason. This refers to the shield issued between 1792 and 1793, whose reverse engraver is Dupré.
Two missing lock escutcheons have been changed.
The drawer funçures are mainly in red fir, the swallowed uprights end in shell feet.
The back is in oak and cherry.
