Description
This mantel trim is a magnificent example of the watchmaker's art, typical of 19th-century luxury pieces, strongly inspired by the Louis XV style. Its mainly turquoise cloisonné enamel decoration with floral motifs reveals high-quality goldsmith's work. The vivid colors, notably shades of blue, green and pink, evoke champlevé enamel techniques, highly prized in the 19th century for their luxurious, sophisticated effects.
The clock is mounted on a sutennu base with four feet, giving it elegant stability. The body of the clock is flanked by two finely chased gilded putti, with subtle details in the expressions, highlighting high-quality French craftsmanship. The upper part of the clock, which evokes an ornamental vase, is also decorated with floral motifs in cloisonné enamel. It is topped by a finely-worked lid that completes the sumptuous appearance of the piece.
The two gilded bronze and cloisonné enamel candelabras each feature two beautifully decorated arms of light, supported by gilded bronze putti. Each is positioned in a graceful posture, holding the base of the light arms, with finely chased wings adding a touch of elegance and harmony. The bases of the candelabras are decorated in cloisonné enamel in turquoise, blue and pink, with floral motifs. The contrast between the turquoise of the enamel and the gold of the bronze creates a striking visual effect, enhancing the overall elegance of the piece. The light arms terminate in bobèches also adorned with cloisonné enamel, echoing the motifs on the base, and are finely sculpted in the form of acanthus leaves and scrolls. Each candelabra has two candleholders, giving them an elegant, balanced symmetry.
