Remarkable fine chasing, beautiful original shaded brown patina.
Slight deformation of the rounded base. A model of this work is kept at the Fabre Museum in Montpellier.
Height 52 cm.
Charles-AlphonseAchille Gumery was one of the most renowned French sculptors and engravers of the Second Empire. First Grand Prix de Rome for sculpture in 1850. Teacher at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-arts in Paris, Gumery was appointed Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur on June 29, 1867.
