Max Moreau, 1902-1992, Belgian painter and watercolorist of portraits, genre scenes and still lifes. Orientalist. He received practical training from his father, the painter Henry Moreau. Between 1918 and 1920, Max Moreau frequented museums, perfecting his skills by reproducing the works of great masters such as Velasquez and Frans Hals. He frequented theaters and cabarets, where he produced a large number of portraits of artists. His family moved to Paris in 1920. There, he frequented the Comédie Française, where he befriended actor Denis d'Ines, for whom he painted over 70 portraits in various roles. Back in Brussels, he completed his military service (1923-24). In 1929, he began a long series of travels. At each stop, he frequented theaters and painted portraits of artists, one of his favorite subjects. He made five long stays in Tunisia. In 1932, he staged a play in Tunis, "Tutus", in which he played the lead role. The play was a success. He exhibited at the Salon tunisien during his stays in Tunis (1933-1934). After living in Morocco and Paris, he settled permanently in Granada, Spain, where he died in 1992. Max Moreau was exhibited in every country he visited, and almost every year in Brussels. A painter of celebrities, he produced numerous portraits: The ex-King of Italy, a Rockfeller daughter, Jules Romains and numerous artists from theater, cinema and opera: Pierre Dac, Michel Simon, Noël Roquevert, Jules Romains, Bernanos, Paul Robert, Gino Cervi, Anthony Quinn, Tyrone Power, Henry Fonda, Madeleine Ozeray, Tito Gobbi, Graziella Sciutti, Pierre Nougaro, Le Maréchal Juin, etc... Works in the Museums of Granada (Musée Max Moreau), Luxembourg, Nîmes, Tournai and Tunis. Artist listed at Bénézit, Arto and Piron, quoted at Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc...
