Blown Glass Spouted Jug, Salviati, Murano, Italy, Circa 1880–1900
Beautiful mouth‑blown glass spouted jug , in perfect condition, with a swollen baluster form and a decoration inspired by Venetian Renaissance models.
It features:
– a gadrooned body obtained by blowing into a mould,
– a fine twisted thread applied hot around the neck,
– a richly modelled handle adorned with small decorative drops typical of historicist Murano production,
– a circular foot shaped at the pontil, attesting to high‑quality craftsmanship.
Now a purely decorative object, but originally intended for table service — water, light wine or scented water — in keeping with traditional Italian Renaissance usage.
The piece belongs to the historicist repertoire developed by Murano glassworks in the late 19th century, particularly by the Salviati firm, which skilfully reinterpreted 16th‑century Venetian glass forms and techniques. The purity of the glass, the finesse of the applied elements and the balance of proportions confirm a superior level of manufacture.
