Bronze Table 1950

Artist: Travail Dans Le Gout De Gio Ponti Et Piero Fornasetti
Elegant occasional table circa 1950, featuring a neo-classical gilded bronze base with a lattice motif of stylized arrows gathered around a concentric medallion. The top is adorned with a rich architectural motif depicting the majestic façade of the Palais Garnier in contrasting black and white tones, lithographically transferred onto painted and lacquered wood. Commonly attributed to Gio Ponti and Piero Fornasetti. Good condition, dimensions: 56 cm high X 47 cm long X 32 cm wide.

Fornasetti began his career as a painter in the 1930s, but it was his graphic works and lithographs from the 1940s onwards that made him one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. Gio Ponti, the contemporary Italian designer and architect of those years, was one of the first to notice Fornasetti's potential after seeing his graphic images on silk scarves at the Milan Triennale in 1933. This led to a close working relationship, with Ponti transposing Fornasetti's motifs onto his own furniture.
