Delicate oil on canvas mounted on cardboard signed Jakob Ruch, a Swiss painter active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The work depicts a young woman seated on a grassy slope overlooking a tightly-roofed village, observing the landscape in a calm, meditative attitude.

The composition captivates with its fresh execution and luminous palette of pastel tones. The tender greens of the foreground, the pinks and mauves of the dwellings and the atmospheric treatment of the background testify to a sensibility close to Swiss Impressionism and Post-Impressionism.
