The two compositions depict spectacular ruins of classical architecture immersed in idealized landscapes, in keeping with the style that characterized Roman painting in the late 17th century.
Monumental columns, archaeological fragments, and fantastical perspectives are set in broad vistas animated by small figures, with mountains and skies rich in light in the background.
Painted in oil on canvas, the paintings are presented in their original frames.
