Superb wood carving featured as an ornament on Norman furniture

The base is in the shape of a basket made of basketwork with a cord on the rim and topped with a superb bouquet of roses
The whole is carved in the round
Piece carved from a thick piece of walnut
This bouquet was affixed to the pediments of wardrobes
Note: the roses were made for engagement furniture and the doves for wedding furniture
