Very fine sculpture by Charles Massé
Born in 1855 and died in 1913, he first studied modeling with his father, then joined Eugène Piot's workshop for ornamental sculpture. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1888 and won an honorable mention at the Exposition Universelle in 1889.
This is one of his landmark works, in which all the sculptor's mastery and natural inspiration are remarkably present.
Very fine patina and depth of polychromy and excellent overall condition.
