Antique Apothecary Cabinet
From the "Marque de Fabrique Déposée ERIN", circa 1900, Wooden case sheathed in black chagrin cloth, brass handle and lock, lid interior lined with red felt.
Portable pharmacy containing: 11 circular glass vials, closed with emery, housed in compartments and bearing printed labels with the words "Médicament pour un usage externe", 6 of which are still filled: Saturn extract, sedative water, ammonia, tincture of arnica (empty), camphorated alcohol (empty), rectified ether (empty), baume du commandeur, lemon balm alcohol (empty), officinal glycerine, 30° iron perchloride. A long compartment contains 2 empty rectangular cardboard boxes: Hamilton poultices and Rigollet sinapismes, as well as 2 tubes of Baudruche and taffeta (with the baudruche) and plasters (empty).
Top this compartment is an individual wooden box containing 6 circular cardboard boxes with printed labels: sodium bicarbonate, rhubarb, Emetic, calcined magnesia, Bismuth nitrate and Alum. The lid of this box has an elastic band that holds 2 white bakelite spoons for administering medicines and a mercury thermometer in its turned lemon wood tube.
On the lid is the maker's mark in gold, this one adorned with a Greek figurine playing a harp. Box key present.
