Restoration-period Solid Silver And Vermeil Confiturier By Charles-antoine Armand Lenglet
Artist: Charles-antoine Armand Lenglet, Actif De 1823 à 1843.
Attractive Restauration-period confiturier, in solid silver and vermeil.
It features a rich decoration, in full or openwork, of classic ornamentation of this period: two beaded frieze hoops frame two falnqué cartouches of palmettes, scrolls, foliage and florets. In these cartouches, Putti holding bundles are seated on floating litters.
The handles are in the form of horns of plenty terminated by bunches of florets.
The lid, edged with pearls, features a laurel wreath grip on the outside and florets on the inside, on a base of palmettes, oves and dards.
The whole rests on a pedestal consisting of six trimmed palms decorated with palmettes and bunches of grapes. Two friezes of pearls, two friezes of gadroons and a frieze of rais-de-coeur with florets adorn the base of the piedouche.
The latter is set on a square base, decorated with friezes of florets and resting on four lion-claw feet.
The container, of ogival shape, is in vermeil to bring contrast to the above decorations.
This beautiful shaped piece is the work of Master silversmith Charles-Antoine Armand Lenglet: CAL hallmarks with a lion passant and a star (25/10/1823, crossed out in 1843 and located at 32 rue de Bourg l'Abbé in Paris). He became a sculptor after selling his workshop.
It is accompanied by twelve small vermeil spoons (brought back, goldsmith's hallmark not deciphered) decorated with hearts, coats of arms and flowers.
The silver title marks found on the confiturier are: "tête de vieillard" Paris, 1er titre (.950) as well as those of grosse and petite garantie Paris. On the teaspoons, "tête de vieillard" Département, 2nd title (.800) and "grosse garantie Département".
Weight of the confiturier: 770 grams.
Weight of the 12 teaspoons: 159 grams.
