Artist: Egypte Du Moyen Empire
This large solar boat rower belonged to Jean and Huguette Ramié in 1982. Friends of Picasso and publishers of ceramics, they were also dealers in archaeological and tribal art. A certificate from Andrey Roger, dated November 29, 1982, will be given to the buyer. This statuette has red skin and wears a short white loincloth. The face has simple features and large eyes surrounded by a short black wig. It expresses a powerful presence. The polychromy is original.
Comparative literature: J. Bourriau, Pharaohs and Mortals: Egyptian Art in the Middle Kingdom, Cambridge University Press, 1988. This work dates from the Middle Kingdom, 2042–1782 BC.
