What we think: English furniture, which was enormously fashionable in the 60s and 70s, is today unjustly neglected. This is high-quality furniture, especially for the 18th and 19th centuries. Prices are very affordable and can even be invested in. Our chair series is complete and, above all, in perfect condition (cabinetwork and upholstery).
Did you know? There are two Regency periods. The first period of English Regency style (1790 - 1820), close to the French Directoire and Consulate styles, began with the regency of the Kingdom of England by the Prince of Wales (1762-1830). It refers to models from antiquity. In the image of Thomas Hope's creations, the form of furniture became more severe. The second period of the English Regency style (1820-1830), concomitant with the French style of the Empire and Restoration, corresponds to the reign of George IV. It was enriched by more ostentatious decoration, giving an impression of power. The heavy, monumental aesthetic of English furniture is reinforced by large flat surfaces adorned with important motifs of Greek, Roman, Egyptian and sometimes exotic inspiration.
The use of mahogany, large smooth surfaces and sober decorations of antique and Etruscan inspiration make this a refined, highly elegant style. The sword-shaped legs and inverted top of the chair back are characteristic of English furniture of this period.
