Pair Of Japanese Engraved And Cut Crystal Vases, Baccarat? Bohème? Circa 1890
A beautiful pair of crystal vases adopting a barrel shape borrowed from Japonism, it features a mirrored decoration where plant compositions face each other. The transparent body is structured vertically by frosted pilasters with scrolled ends, centered by a rosette medallion, and horizontally by chevron and pearl friezes engraved on the neck and base. Marked by the influence of Japonism, the space between these geometric elements is occupied by a naturalistic, asymmetrical wheel-engraved decoration of sinuous stems, hanging buds and elongated, serrated leaves with glossy veins, ending with large blossoming flowers whose striated petals contrast with a frosted, pearled heart.
Fine-quality work circa 1890 attributable to the finest European manufactures, such as Baccarat or bohème.
