"aquarium" Vase, Wheel-engraved Decoration And Glass Tears, Delvaux Edition, C. 1925
This high-quality piece features an aquatic motif composed of fish and seaweed, created through highly precise wheel engraving. The ornamentation consists of seven teardrop-shaped pieces of sapphire blue glass, applied while hot. The signature "Delvaux Paris" is engraved on the front, lower right, following the seaweed motif. The design of this piece reflects an industrial and artistic collaboration typical of the 1920s: the white (the colorless body of the vase with its foot, neck, and seven applied sapphire blue teardrops) was produced by the Schneider crystalworks, while the engraved decoration is the work of the artistic direction of the House of Delvaux. This aquatic motif, representative of the taste of the period, is part of the aesthetic language defined by great glass masters such as Marcel Goupy.
