Charming antique Turkmen saddle rug, woven in wool on a deep red ground, featuring a traditional composition decorated with stylized guls and geometric motifs characteristic of the textile art of the nomadic peoples of Central Asia.

The main border harmoniously frames the central field decorated with repeating medallions in shades of red, ivory, brown and midnight blue. The extremities are embellished with small protective motifs typical of Turkmen productions intended for horse equipment and the daily uses of nomadic tribes.

This piece bears witness to authentic craftsmanship, with a beautiful patina and wear consistent with its age giving it plenty of character. Its elongated format also lends itself to decorative use as a hallway rug, trunk front or wall hanging.
