Rare and important French Oignon pocket watch, a historic timepiece characterized by a domed and thick shape, produced mainly between the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
Datable to around 1695.
Brass case covered in leather. Excellent condition.

Thickness 36mm
Large engraved and openwork silver coq.
Gilded movement with Egyptian pillars, verge escapement, and hour and quarter repeater.
Signed "Godde Laisne à Paris".
Silver dial engraved using the champlevé technique with Roman numerals, original hands.
Jean Godde L'Aîné (1668–1748) was a renowned French master watchmaker working in Paris during the reigns of Louis XIV and the Regency.
He became a master watchmaker in 1691 and created important pieces for the French crown, particularly for Louis XIV.
He also collaborated with the greatest cabinetmakers and sculptors of 18th-century France.
He is known for his fine Boulle and Regency-style pendulum clocks.
His mechanisms are often signed "Jean Godde Laine à Paris" or "Godde Laisne."
The clock is in working order; it winds down completely and strikes the hours and quarters when the pendulum is pressed.
As this is a clock over 300 years old, accuracy is not guaranteed.
The clock is sold with an elegant wooden box and comes complete with a key for winding and setting.
