Abochini
Early 20th century
India - Pakistan
Floche silk embroidered cotton bridal shawl known as an "Abochini" from the Sindh region, now on the border between India and Pakistan and dating from the early 20th century. Indian cotton chintzé with eight large stylized flowers called "Buti" at each end. Green and red floche silk embroidery. In the center, randomly embroidered "Buti" with poncif marks, printed on a woodblock before embroidery. Indian craftsman's marks and export number in the corners. This textile is very moving because it bears the traces of the craftsman who made it, with human imperfections. Here, flaws become qualities! No damage apart from a yellowish halo in one border, probably original. The cotton and embroidery are solid. Beautiful condition of color and conservation.
